With four convenient locations, you’ll be sure to find an office close to home, school, or work. When you come in for your consultation, you’ll be greeted warmly and given a short tour of the office. There will be freshly brewed coffee, cookies, and other light refreshments available for you to enjoy as you take a few moments to become comfortable with your surroundings. We’ll then move on to taking a few digital photographs and x-rays for our records before introducing you to Dr. Shawn or Dr. Candice.
While examining your teeth, gums, and mouth, our doctors may ask if you have had any problems with chewing, swallowing, or opening and closing your mouth. The information that we obtain from this exam, your medical and dental history, and the images taken are what go into making your initial diagnosis. This information will also allow our doctors to create a customized treatment plan for you based on your unique smile!
We never want patients to feel as though we’re rushing them through appointments, especially the very first one. Your initial visit with us should last about an hour, as this gives us plenty of time to perform an exam, discuss your diagnosis, and address any questions or concerns you may have at this point. You can also expect us to cover topics like:
- any oral issues you are experiencing
- if treatment is needed immediately or if waiting is recommended
- what treatment options are available to correct the problem
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total investment required for treatment

The next step in the orthodontic process
After you’ve decided on a treatment plan with Dr. Shawn or Dr. Candice, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to start the active phase of treatment. Depending on the type of treatment you’ll be using, you can expect follow-up visits every 4-8 weeks or so. During these check-ups, we’ll assess your progress and check to be sure that your teeth are moving according to the treatment plan. Our doctors will also make any necessary adjustments if you’re wearing traditional braces.
These visits are an essential part of the treatment process, so it’s important that you don’t miss them. While we do our best to schedule your appointments for a day and time that is convenient for you, we understand that there may be days when you’re running late or can’t make your appointment for some reason! If this happens, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible so we can reschedule your appointment for another day. This will help keep your treatment plan on track!
